I create impressionistic landscapes in both batik (using wax to resist dyes on fabric) and oil paints. Batik interests me because of its undiscovered possibilities; I enjoy watching a piece evolve over the course of several weeks in the studio. On the other hand, one of my favorite pleasures is to paint outdoors from life. For me the two mediums complement each other.
Most of my art depicts the hiking country of New Mexico, especially rock formations and badlands. But since we travel about half the year, I enjoy painting en plein air all over North America. The image above shows me by the Sea of Cortez on the west coast of Mexico.
I hope you will enjoy looking at my batik landscapes and oil paintings. Thank you for your interest. Bienvenidos - y gracias por su visita. - Cathy
