This annual black-tie gala will feature Howie Mandel this year.  I have donated an oil painting to the silent auction, which will benefit the Diabetes Initiative and Critical Needs at Presbyterian Hospital, Albuquerque.

"Needles & Pins: Textiles and Tools"
Location: Museum of International Folk Art, Santa Fe, NM
Event Dates: 8/24/2008 - 1/4/2009

This is a fascinating exhibit encompassing a worldwide view of textiles and how they have been made and decorated over history.  Some of my Indonesian batik tools are on loan to the museum for this show.

An excerpt from the catalog by Bobbie Sumberg, Curator of Textiles and Costume:

"The creation of textiles has inspired human thought and communication throughout time.  In ancient Greece the Three Fates spun, measured, and cut the thread of life, determining mortals' destiny with spindle and blade.  Many European fairy tales incorporate spinning and weaving to comment on woman's role in the family and society.  All languages are rich in metaphor and expressions of textiles and their making."
