This is a trail in the Sandia Mountains that we hike almost every Tuesday night when we are home in Albuquerque. I painted this "en plein air" - on location with wind, cactus spines, changing light. It took me four afternoons of carrying my equipment about half a mile up the trail, and then back down again. It was painted over several months because each time I had to wait for the right conditions. It is much easier to paint smaller sizes on location but I liked having room to put more paint on the canvas.
